چکیده

This paper presents concepts for dealing with topological information in building information models. On the one hand, it shows how to derive topological relationships from ``traditional'' building models consisting of unconnected B-Rep bodies by means of geometric processing algorithms. On the other hand, it discusses the capabilities of topological building modeling based on relational complexes, an approach based on Algebraic Topology and the Relational Data Model. To make these complexes suitable for building modeling it was necessary to extend them by geometric properties. Finally, the paper depicts an advantageous application of cell complex-based modeling: the separation of the building model into an abstract specification of building entities (sketch), a collection of possible concrete realizations of such sketch entities (details) and a specification of the details used by sketch entities. Then a working drawing results from the spatial version of the relational operator inner equi-join, the so-called fiber product.

Effective energy consumption parameters in residential buildings using Building Information Modeling

Building information modeling can help in predicting the energy efficiency in future based on dynamic patterns obtained by visualization of data. The aim of this study was to investigate the effective parameters of energy consumption using BIM technology which can evaluate the buildings energy performance. First, three forms of general states in the building were modeled to evaluate the propose...

Reducing rework and increasing the civil projects quality, through Total Quality Management (TQM), by using the concept of building information modeling (BIM)

One of the important problems in the field of Construction Industry is ‘rework’. It affects time, costs, quality, and almost every criteria of project success. As a result of rework and ineffective use of resources and materials in the workshops, there is always a considerable loss of resources, materials, investments, and workforce-time. Designing and planning through full awareness of clients...

Assessment of the completeness of Volunteered Geographic Information focusing on building blocks data (Case Study: Tehran metropolis)

Open Street Map (OSM) is currently the largest collection of volunteered geographic data, widely used in many projects as an alternative to or integrated with authoritative data. However, the quality of these data has been one of the obstacles to the widely use of it. In this article, from among the elements related to the quality of volunteered geographic data, we have tried to examine the com...

Simulation of Smoke Emission from Fires in High-Rise Buildings Using the 3D Model Generated from 2-Dimensional Cadastral Data

Having a 3-Dimensional model of high-rise buildings can be used in disaster management such as fire cases to reduce casualties. The fundamental dilemma in 3D building modeling is the unavailability of suitable data sources. However, available cadastral 2D maps could be used as low-cost and attainable resources for 3D building modeling. Smoke will be a great threat to people's health during a f...
